Morpheus - Adipocere [SCAM 016] Recorded and Mixed in April 1991 at Legend Studios, Long Island, NY. Produced by Morpheus. Mixed by Bob Vandermark and Morpheus
HISTORY Morpheus was founded in Middletown, NY in October of 1990. Quickly they began playing with bands like Morbid Angel and Prime Evil. The groups first recording was the demo "Accelerated Decrepitude" in 1990. Further gigs followed with the likes of Deceased, Suffocation, Goreaphobia, and Nokturnel. Seeing the band now a firm fixture in the New York Death Metal Scene, and their 3 EP's and 1 full length are considered cult releases of the era.
In 1991 after an approach by Seraphic Decay Records, Morpheus released the 'Adipocere' double 7"EP which contained tracks from their first demo "Accelerated Decrepitude". Legendary "Walking Dead" gore comic book artist "Jim Sommerville" supplied the artwork and the release surfaced in October 1991. Receiving much acclaim and interest from major metal publications, bands, fanzines and demo traders, the groups name quickly spread throughout the underground worldwide. January 1992 gave unholy birth to "Corpse under Glass" a 3 song demo, the recording was also the debut of new front man Jeff Riemer, ex-singer of the NYDM band Decomposed. A deal with the label JL America and RED Distribution was then worked out to release the 1992 demo "Corpse under Glass" plus some new unreleased songs worldwide. Thus "Ritual of Infinity" was released and the band also incorporated a name change to become Morpheus Descends. Guitarist Steve Hanson would leave at this point, and bassist Ken Faggio later that year. Ex-Subconscious bassist Andy Newton and guitarist Brian Johnson both relocated to NY and joined the band.
In 1994 their self financed MCD "Chronicles of The Shadowed Ones" was released after a gap of almost two years and was praised as their finest release. Atmospheric songs with a quality production true to the sound of Classic Death Metal, is how most described their sound...
